Youth Empowerment Africa (YEA) SL
is a registered company with a focus to empowering the youth across Africa. The youth represent 60% of the population in sierra Leone of which 70% are unemployed.
YEA SL will ensure that youth across Sierra Leone and Africa are fully engaged in the specific incoming generating activities that will help alleviate poverty, increase wealth and livelihood in communities in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.
YEA will embark on the following activities:
YOUTH IN AGRICTLTURE
YEA will embark on Increasing agricultural food production, provide opportunities for the youth, rural farmers, skills training, and help farming communities and stimulate local employment.
It is a proven concept that the Sierra Leone economy is strongly reliant on agriculture and contributes 47.9% to the GDP and the largest source of Job creation - employing about 68.5% according to SLIPA, 2014 data. Sierra Leone is blessed with arable and fertile farm soil, favorable weather condition for the growth of crops year-round which is the main reason YEA is convinced that Agribusiness is the viable means to get the youth of Sierra Lone something meaningful to do.
Our focus is to end hunger and acute poverty in an environmentally responsible manner and encourage self-sufficiency in rural villages across the country. YEA shall target vegetable and crops production, tree planting, fisheries, poultry, animal husbandry to name but a few.
YOUTH IN MINING
The mining industry in Sierra Leone accounted for 4.5 percent of the country's GDP in and minerals made up 79 percent of total export revenue with diamonds accounting for 46 percent of export revenue. And this industry is predominately dominated by foreign companies.
Mining is a job creating sector and will increase wealth and livelihood of the youth, and most importantly will engage an environmentally responsible mining practice whereby YEA will replant trees. YEA will focus on Diamond and Gold Mining.
YOUTH IN TRANSPORT
Moving from one location to another still poses lot of challenges in the country, especially in rural communities. Pupils work for miles to school and back, and mostly girls are the most vulnerable. YEA will recruit drivers, riders and support personnel to maintain a fleet of bikes, tricycles, taxis, and minibuses across Sierra Leone.
The Transport sector will provide job opportunities to the youth and at the same time address the growing transportation needs in the country.
YOUTH IN VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Skills development is one of the sustainable ways to empower the youth, this is a lifetime investment and can allow the youth to choose a career path to realize their dreams. YEA Vocational training drive will be focus on the following:
Computing, Carpentry, Masonry, Plumbing, Electronics, Electrical and Solar Energy, Soap Making, Painting, Sewing, micro business, Welding, Aeronautics and Drone Pilots, Photography, Bookkeeping, Auto Mechanic to name but a few.
YOUTH IN SPORTS
Over the recent years, Sierra Leone has not performed well in international tournaments, and no-show in other sports disciplines.
YEA will focus on developing the special skills of the youth in various sports disciplines to ensure that we win local and international competitions and bring home trophies.
YOUTH IN FISHERIES
Fisheries is another lucrative sector for investment, and a viable form of employment for the youth. YEA shall firstly embark artisanal fishery operating in estuaries and inshore waters and extending from the shoreline to a depth of 20–40 m, and later into industrial fishery in more deeper waters. It worth noting that the Fisheries sector of Sierra Leone contributes about 10 percent to the Gross Domestic Product.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
YEA will be led by a dynamic and young board of directors who will ensure prosperity by collectively directing the company's affairs, whilst meeting the appropriate interests of its shareholders and stakeholders. Some members of the board are also shareholders of the company.
